I've never made these myself, so I don't really know if the above is close to the recipe that I've ordered in restaurants.
Puna
There's a story behind this drink (isn't there always?)...
Way back when, in the depths of Club Chaos history and my days when weekend heavy drinking was just a 20-something No Big Deal, Gene and I watched a movie called Moon Over Parador and thought it was one of the funniest things we'd ever seen. Of course, I believe we'd been imbibing quite a bit o' beer so our judgment might've been a little off. (I still think the movie is pretty funny, though.) In the movie, the dictator of a tiny little country called Parador indulges in a drink called a "puna," which is never really described. "Too many damn punas," and the dictator kicks the bucket, and Richard Dreyfus' character, an actor who does too good an impression of the departed, has to take his place while the corrupt political cronies figure out what to do next.
Anyhow, we thought it'd be fun to create the puna. What we came up with was pretty darn tasty, and was a hit on those binge weekends of old. I don't remember the exact recipe, and we made it in volume, but here's an approximate single serving:
1/2 shot light rum
1/2 shot dark rum
1/2 shot spiced rum
1 shot banana liqueur
3 oz pineapple/orange/banana juice
3 oz mango juice
2 Tbsp pineapple chunks
Combine it all. When you get to the bottom of the drink, the appropriate raucous chant of "Eat the chunks! Eat the chunks!" is enjoyed by everybody in the room who's sober enough to chant along...
Weird Drinks I've Never Tried...
The kind of drinks you dare your friends to order.
Fire & Ice
1 1/2 shot pepper vodka
1 tsp dry vermouth
In a mixing glass half-filled w/ ice cubes, stir well, then strain into another glass.
Firecracker
1 1/2 shots cinnamon schnapps
1 1/2 shots cherry brandy
dash of Tabasco sauce
Green Dragon
1 1/2 shot gin
1 shot green creme de menthe
1/2 shot kummel
1/2 shot lemon juice
several dashes peach or orange bitters
Mix with cracked ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Romulan Ale - large volume recipe
1 fifth Bacardi 151
1 fifth Blue Curacao
2 liters Sprite or 7-Up
Mix all ingredients. Chill for approximately 3 hours and serve.
Hmmm. Let's see... other recipes I've seen for Romulan Ale have orange flower water in them. So maybe a single serving of Romulan Ale could be:
1 shot Bacardi 151
1 shot Blue Curacao
1 tsp orange vodka
3 to 6 oz Sprite or 7-Up (depending on how strong you like it)
Shake with crushed ice, then strain into chilled glass.
Vulcan Mind Probe
1 shot Wild Turkey
1 shot ouzo
1 shot 151
Windex
1 shot vodka
1 shot triple sec
1 shot Blue Curacao
1 shot lime juice
Not quite a drink, but alcoholic and edible...
Jello Aquarium
1 clean goldfish bowl (a new one, never having known real fish, would be
good)
4 envelopes Knox gelatin
Blue Curacao and vodka
Purple endive
fennel leaves
anything w/pretty foliage
Assorted Swedish gummi fish
1 large package red hots, jelly beans or other small, hard or coated candy
Mix gelatin according to directions, using Curacao and vodka for water in whatever ratio you prefer. You can, of course, additionally use hot water so that it doesn't end up too high of proof. Place hard candies in bottom of bowl (this is the aquarium "gravel"). When gelatin is cool but not set, pour it slowly into the bowl, be careful not to disturb candy or the color will run. Cool until half-set then add foliage and fish, placing them w/strands of spaghetti. Refrigerate.
